gan|try «GAN tree», noun, plural -tries.
1. a bridgelike framework that spans over something, for supporting a kind of suspended crane or block signals over railroad tracks.
2. = gantry crane. (Cf.gantry crane)
3. a four-footed, wooden stand for barrels. Also, gauntry.
[probably alteration of Old North French gantier, Old French chantier < Latin canthērius rafter, frame, related to Greek kanthêlios donkey]
